Like the song says ‘breaking up is hard to do’. and apparently many of us are holding on to an old photo or two, so we never forget that guy who got away?
A survey done about holding onto old photos shows that the women are more sentimental than the men. Well, we didn’t need a survey to tell us that did we? 61 per cent claim they keep the photos because they highlight a part of their life they don’t want to forget.
But men are as cold as we imagine. They may be hiding more from their partners than their other halves realize.
One in five men who took part in a survey, and are now in a new relationship, have stashed away photos of their ex partners. They report hiding the photos fearing disapproval from their new partner, compared to only nine per cent of women.
Men also seem to have more weighing on their conscience, as 17 per cent said they ‘sometimes feel guilty about keeping photos of their ex partners’, compared to just 11 per cent of their female counterparts.
This is interesting too, one in ten men who keep photos of their ex partners admit they still have feelings for them, compared to only five percent of the women.
The point at which people are able to put an ex-partner’s photo away (after a split, divorce or death) is usually the time they are emotionally ready to move on.
Here are some of the reasons given for keeping an ex’s photos:
It was part of my life that I don’t want to forget
They bring back good memories
They remind me of a special event
I look good in the photos
They make me laugh
I still have feelings for my ex
I think we may get back together one day
