Doesn't it seem like there is nothing Oprah can't do? This is a woman who can help get a president elected but has a problem stabilizing her weight. After getting down to 160 pounds she is back up to 200. But is this that the real problem?
This is what she says, "I’m embarrassed. I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, "How did I let this happen again?" She also confessed that when she had Cher and Tina Turner on her show she felt like a cow. "I wanted to disappear".
In the January issue of O Magazine, Oprah reveals she has been depressed. She was on too much medication and it was making her feel like her life was flat lining. What she now realizes is that she doesn't have a weight problem. Her problem is a life that is out of balance. I think we can all relate to that. Too much work – not enough fun!
I think the biggest challenge for all of us Real Cougars is to love ourselves more and to learn to embrace our bodies. If we are always comparing ourselves to the woman standing next to us, like Oprah did, we are putting ourselves under tremendous stress. And, we are saying to ourselves we are not good enough. When we hear that message constantly rattling around in our brain – we start to believe it.
Bottom line, let 2009 be the year of accepting yourself and all you have to be grateful for.
