Stilettos Out – Fashion Week Loves Shoes Made For Walking

Women’s shoes are painful, impractical and walking in them is pure torture. The five, six and even seven-inch heels have been the rage so are poor feet have suffered for the sake of fashion.

I prefer a three inch heel and they have been almost impossible to find.  Our choices were limited – either it was the ridiculous stilts or the super flat ballet pumps.

But that is about to change — because this season the hottest heel height is a demure one inch, perhaps two if you push it.

Dubbed the ‘petite pump’, the new ‘It shoe’ featured in the collections of Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Chloe and Chanel, has been the heel of choice for fashionistas at London Fashion Week.

‘We don’t want to wear instruments of torture any more,’ says fashion expert Brix Smith-Start. ‘These heels are the perfect height to make you stand a little taller, they’re smart and structured, but you can wear them all day.’

 

Could it be,  that we are seeing the death of the sky-high stiletto?  One can only hope.

Big Brooklyn Style Coming to TLC

At 10pm on May 29th, TLC launches their new fasion show, Big Brooklyn Style. This series revolves around a small clothing business that caters to plus-size women.  It’s going to debut right after What Not To Wear at 9PM ET.

 

Stacy London is the executive producer of the new show that follows husband and wife business owners Lisa and Jim Dolan, as they revise and revolutionize the norms of plus-size shopping experiences in their Brooklyn clothing store, Lee Lee’s Valise. Each episode will focus on three different customers as their intimate shopping experience at the store, combined with Lisa’s distinctive clothing line, helps transform their lives.

 

The average size of an American woman is 14, but no average-sized American woman experiences a normal shopping experience at a typical fashion retailer as only 18% of clothes are a size 14 or over. At Lee Lee’s Valise, women of all shapes and sizes feel confident, fashionable and sexy through Lisa’s custom-made designs.

 

Through drama, laughs and a lot of tears, Lisa and her team will transform their customers’ wardrobe from shab to fab — all through the simple and personalized accommodations to fit and flaunt each unique body type. While Lisa and Jim have a strong opinion about each and every item in Lee Lee’s Valise, they always put the customer first. Often times the customer’s feedback and personal shopping experience plays a vital role in how Lisa designs her line and stocks her shop.

 

I think woman all over the country will be loving this show.

Woman and Casual Sex

When it comes to casual sex, are men and women really that different?  Most would argue that there is a huge difference. But, maybe there’s not.  Just maybe woman want sex as much as men do – however, they require different conditions for casual sex to be appealing.

Conservative values, and religion specifically has attempted to destroy sexual pleasure for both men and women – but it has come down hard on female pleasure. Women are whores if they are too sexual. Women are sluts if they explore their deepest sexual desires. These labels have become mental, emotional, and orgasmic prisons for many women – especially when it comes to “casual” sex.

For example, in a landmark study from the 1980’s, when random women were solicited by random men for casual sex – women turned the men down 100 percent of the time. Men on the other hand only turned down random solicitations by women 25 to 31 percent of the time. But, to be fair, the 1980’s were still the dark ages for female sexuality. It was believed that women were not naturally promiscuous. 

Psychologist Terri Conely explored this question in a groundbreaking 2011 study. She refined the question of casual sex for females by suggesting that a safe, physically attractive random lover had the potential to give her a positive sexual experience. Under these conditions, women were just as likely to accept sex with a random partner as were men.
